What I Read in February

One of my New Years' Resolutions this year was to read more. I never specified how many books or what I had to read but, I have done really well so far the past two months. I have read four books, two this month and multiple blog posts and online articles!

Online

Ten Morning Habits of Super Successful Women
Camille Styles

"I’ve always been fascinated by the little, everyday habits that are shared by so many successful and creative people. What are the secret rituals and healthy practices that make up their lives – and why? That question formed the springboard for our Getting Dressed With series, and I’ve loved the chance to take a peek into the morning routines of our favorite stylish women and getting the inside scoop on the products and rituals that help them prepare for the day like a boss. Since we’re all trying to set some good habits at the beginning of this new year, it seemed the perfect time to dig into the archives and see what healthy habits these – and a few of our other favorite ladies – share for a little AM inspiration..."

This Ballet Brand is Making Pointe Shoes for Women of ALL Colours
Fashion Magazine

"Pointe shoes and ballet tights traditionally come in three colours: white, nude and light pink. The idea being that tights and shoes should give the illusion of a seamless leg extension—a perfect line. Pointe shoes typically aren’t meant to stand out, they’re meant to blend in..."

Meet the Women Who Wants to Make Mornings Great Again
Flare Magazine

"Between the heaping pile of terrible news that is being dumped onto Twitter on a regular basis and Insta pics showing that yes, yet another one of your friends is engaged, scrolling through social media these days can be a landmine. Reese Evans, 27, found that each morning would start the same, not so great, way. “The first thing I would do was grab my phone and scroll through Instagram, Facebook and Twitter and spend all this time taking in everyone else’s day and falling into that comparison,” she says..."

City Living | Bloom & Roots

I discovered the small business Bloom & Roots back in December at a local community shopping event in Toronto. I spoke to the founder, Marcelo and he explained the reasons behind creating the company; 'your skin is your largest organ and it absorbs everything,' he explained. Using a store bought moisturiser may be harmless in the moment but, using multiple personal care products over a lifetime is harmful to your body. He further explained stats about what kinds of health problems are a cause of using personal care products with chemicals.

Marcelo's mission is to develop a range of products that can minimise exposure to chemicals. Bloom & Roots is a handcrafted and natural skincare company based out of Toronto, Canada. Their product line currently consists of:

Lip Balm $4

Cream Deodorant $10

Body Butter $15

Shop on etsy!

Check out their Facebook Page!

I purchased all three products at the local shopping event and I love all of them. First of all, everything smells amazing! My lip balm is almost out becuase I use it every day. I'm going to need to pick up a new one soon! The cream deoderant is the only natural deoderant I have found that actually works for me. It would be easier to have the deoderant in a stick form but, a cream deoderant is applied better with the warmth of your fingertips. And the body butter feels luxurious. However, you only need to apply a little. I have gone overbaord with the body butter once and becasue it is oil and butter based in does take a while to soak in. So dont apply too much, a little goes a long way. Overall, I would repurchase all of their items again!

Remember to support small businesses and shop local!

Let me know what natural skincare products you use in the comments below!

The Intern Files | 3 ways to excel

1. Arrive early and stay late

Being on time is a given but, to show how serious you are about the internship get there early and stay a little later. Doing this just helps to show your interest in the company and what you are doing for the company.

2. Share your ideas

If you have an idea don't be afraid to tell someone. You don't want to be the intern who doesn't speak up or regret not contributing enough! And never let the size of a company hold you back; a company hires interns for free/less expensive help, however, you bring fresh ideas to the company being young and new to the job.

3. Take initiative

Never wait to be told what to do! Just start working! Make a list of everything you want to do to help or what you think needs to happen. Show your mentor first or just start on your list. Whether you take the time to write down your ideas or actually start on an idea, it is showing initiative because no one had to tell you what to do!
