Vegan Cuts May Beauty Box!

I just received my Vegan Cuts  May Beauty Box! This is my first time purchasing anything from the company and this is my first box. I can say that I have mixed feelings about my first box.

1. Everclen Facial Toner ($15 value)
2. Terre mere Cosmetics Brush ($34 value)
3. The Granola Goat Face serum ($4 value)
4. Medusa's Makeup Bronzer in Sunkissed ($12 value)
5. Molly Rose Balm Body Scrub in Grapefruit Basil ($2 value)
The box has a $67 value and I paid $34 Canadian.

I love the facial toner and the makeup brush. The toner smells great and has amazing ingredients inside. The makeup brush feels like it is good quality and the bristles are very soft. I like the face serum and body scrub but, I would have liked them to be a little bigger. It feels like there isn't enough to fully try out the product. I have to say I am disappointed with the bronzer. I know the product is vegan but, you would think it would also have good ingredients. I feel vegan and all natural go hand-in-hand together. Well for this bronzer it does not. The third ingredient is mineral oil which should never go on your face; it can clog your pores. Having acne prone skin this worries me. I will try out the box again next month. They also have a snack box as well, so I might get that one as well. You can get the boxes online at Vegan Cuts.

How to Shop Smart

Today I wanted to share some of my tips for saving money. I like to think of myself as an avid shopper and I refuse to pay full price for anything!!

Some great ways to save money:

1. Never ever pay full price! Always be on the lookout for sales.

2. Only purchase necessities (I know this is sometimes very hard to do!)

3. Before you purchase more clothes for your closet, go through your clothes and get rid of some stuff. Say you get rid of 5 things, when you go shopping you are only allowed to buy 5 things maximum. Instead of donating clothes after you clean out your closet, go to consignment stores or Platos Closet to get money for your clothes. You can use this money for new clothes or you can save it.

4. Shop for certain things online for exclusive deals and always try to get free shipping use sites like 'retailmenot' to find coupon codes for extra savings

5. Use an online rebates website. I have been a member of Ebates since 2013 and I have gotten $150+ cash back from my online purchases. At the time of purchase, something like 5% may not seem like a lot but, it can add up by the end of the year.

6. If you are student look for student-only deals. I use Amazon Student for free express shipping on my textbooks and sometimes there are coupon codes to save extra. (You can also get a free trial to test out first if you're unsure.)

7. Join the Influenster community. You can discover new products by reading reviews and writing reviews yourself. The website helps to give you an idea of what you're purchasing before you do, so you don't waste your money. Plus, if you build up your impact score you can qualify for campaigns and get for products to try out for review. What's smarter than getting products for free??

Working in Visual Merchandising

Today I wanted to start the "Career" section on my blog. I am going to first talk about what I do/my experience and then, later on, start to write future posts about breaking into the fashion industry and the different kinds of jobs that exist.

I consider Visual Merchandising to be one of those hidden careers that a lot of people don't know exist. For instance, before I started working in visual my family had no clue what it was. I guess they thought the clothes magically put themselves out onto the selling floor, the mannequins dressed themselves or the most famous, the sales associate did it all. Being a former sales associate I know that your first priority is customer service, not merchandising. Most customers don't realise all of the work that goes into making the store look presentable and making a memorable experience (which can be a good sometimes; impulse purchasing, 'adding more to their basket').

I got the classic sales associate job when I was 16 and started to dread going to work after a year or so. So, when I finished high school and started university I jumped into a part-time merchandising job. Hands-down the best 'career' move I ever made. The people I work with are so much nicer and a lot easier to work with. And overall the job is just more appealing to me than sales for one main reason; clothes can't talk.

Personally for me working in-store doing visual merchandising isn't something I can see myself doing for the rest of my life, even though lots of people do and have rewarding careers. I see visual as my first career while I'm in university. I hope my second career is working for a retailer in their corporate office. Who knows one day I may even be making visual directives and designing stores. But, for right now I love my visual job and everyone I've met.

If you love the business side of fashion I would suggest looking into visual merchandising as a potential job or a starting point to launch your career. Some great job sites to look at are:

Style Careers
Style Nine to Five
Fashionista Careers
Business of Fashion Careers
Indeed

I just received my Rachhloves Spring Favourites Box in the mail today and I'm super excited it finally came. Rachel is my favourite YouTube 'beauty guru'; she's actually the first one I ever started watching. I discovered the YouTube beauty community through her channel in 2010. Her channel has grown so much since I started watching her videos (she's so close to the 1 million subscriber milestone!)

Inside the box!

-Elizabeth Arden Grand Entrance Mascara (2.5mL deluxe sample)
-GlamGlow Flashmud Brightening Treatment (15g deluxe sample)
-Delectable Everything Balm (7mL deluxe sample)
-Essie Summer Collection (choose your shade)
-NYX Butter Gloss (full size, choose your shade)

The mascara, GlamGlow treatment and lip gloss look amazing. I have never heard of the brand Delectable before but, so glad I was able to discover it. I am very excited to try out the everything balm. I love the Essie nail polish formulas. Plus, the two new colours are super cute. The box is $19 but has a retail value of $68+. Overall I give this box 10/10. I love all of the products and I'm very glad I discovered them. Rachel if you are reading this please create another box! Maybe you do one every season?? Please support this wonderful YouTuber by buying her Spring Favourites Box and subscribing to her channel!
