City Living | Page Ashbury

I discovered an amazing local skincare brand based out of Toronto about three months ago, Page Ashbury. I received a sample of their Neroli and Jasmine facial moisturizer in my Vegan Cuts October Beauty Box. Immediately when the bottle was on its last legs I ordered more moisturizer along with their face cleanser and face serum.

My favourite thing about this brand isn't that they use natural, vegan, sustainable ingredients (which is very important to me, your skin absorbs everything, treat it well), it's the results I got for only using the products for less than a month.

After moving to Toronto my skin freaked out. It didn't like the Toronto air and started producing more oil causing a lot of blackheads and breakouts. My skin was like, "I don't like it here", so I'm going to let you know in the worst way possible.

I started using the Page Ashbury face moisturizer after this skin freak out started and the results were unbelievable. Most moisturizers make my skin oily even if they say they're for oily skin but, not Page Asbury's genius creation. My skin felt smooth and hydrated but, not slippery or shiny.

After reading the ingredients list I knew it had to be the jojoba oil, which is the closest oil to what your skin naturally produces. My oily skin was tricked into thinking that it didn't need to produce any extra oil.

In combination with the cleanser, serum, moisturizer and my Foreo Luna Mini my skin is currently is the best condition it has every been in.

I could continue to go on about how amazing their products are but, I will stop here and say go check out their site and see the beauty for yourself. Now the next thing for me to try is their natural deodorant!

Remember to Shop Local and let me know what skincare products you're loving in the comments below!

The Intern Files | What being a fashion intern is really like

Apparently, there's a stereotype in the fashion industry that there are things called, 'coffee internships'. Now, of course, this came from the media but, I can tell you first hand that a fashion internship requires hard work and determination as fashion can be one of the most difficult industry's to break into.

Nowadays interns are brought onto teams to do actual work and contribute their ideas; most of the time unpaid but, the hours will count towards school credit. Your first internship or first couple of internships is the perfect time to start making a name for yourself and building positive relationships with employers.

1. There are more opportunities than you realise

Internships don't just exist at large fashion empires and they don't always have to exist in big cities. There are so many small start-up companies and independent designers out there to choose from. And working for a smaller company first can be more beneficial to your career as you will do more hands on 'important' work.

2. You don't have to be a designer

Designing is just one of the many jobs that exist in the fashion industry. There are internships in personal styling, photography, writing, editing, modelling, marketing, merchandising, buying, retail, management, operations and more.

3. Your boss will not be terrifying

We've all heard of that typical scary Anna Wintour type manager in the fashion world but, your boss or mentor if you will, wants your help and wants you to learn! They will actually want you to succeed.

My Day at Teen Vogue

On January 13th, 2017 I got to experience probably one of the most exciting things in my life to date. I got participate in The Teen Vogue Experience #TeenVogueX! I've done multiple posts about the Parsons x Teen Vogue program I participated in last year and this experience is just one of the many great things to happen because of it.

The Agenda:

Editorial Panel Discussion and Q+A

The first and most exciting thing on the agenda was the editorial panel. The panel was moderated by Sam Fox and six editors/directors participated. Elaine Welteroth, Editor of Teen Vogue, of course, was there and she is actually the coolest and most down to earth person I've ever met. It was amazing listening to their perspectives on the fashion industry as a whole and not just media. I also learned how each of them landed their roles and how they got their start in fashion.

Photo Shoot

I was in group two and we started off with the photo shoot in the Conde Nast shared photo studio and lab. I was able to participate in my own "photo shoot" (the pictures will be sent to me later) and it was such an awkward experience. Don't get me wrong it was exciting to have a real photographer and photo editor, who was extremely nice, take my pictures in an amazing well lit white space but, I'm definitely not comfortable with the whole modelling thing. I have no idea how to pose and what to do with my hands. There was also a 'Selfie Wall' where everyone was able to take pictures themselves.

Influencer Discussion with Amy Levin, Founder of College Fashionista

The second group activity was an influencer chat with Amy Levin who started College Fashionista in 2009. I didn't take any pictures but, it was held in a conference room. She discussed her journey in entrepreneurship and skills we need to break into fashion in our own way.

Fashion Closet Tour

The last thing I got to see was the ever so famous Teen Vogue Fashion Closet! Every fashion, beauty or lifestyle related magazine has a fashion or beauty closet where PR samples are held for upcoming photo shoots and features in future magazine issues. The tour was lead by Accessories Market Associate, Kyle. The group was also able to seen the editorial teams workspace on our way to the fashion closet.

Closing Remarks

Sam Fox wrapped up the day in the style and everyone got to take home a Teen Vogue Swag Bag!
